Sock Monkey Coin Purse with Kunin Felt at Creativation

Hey Everyone! I wanted to take the next few posts to share some of the fun projects I made while attending this year's Creativation Show. Creativation is a trade show for the craft and hoddy industry and is a LOT of fun to attend.

Today's project is one of my absolute FAVORITES from the show! Shh, don't tell the others I said that! This adorable little sock monkey coin purse was made with the amazing new Corduroy Felt! I'm sharing the link so you can check it out too, just click HERE! 

Ok, now that you've looked at this awesome felt, back to my project... I cut the brown out for the base by folding my sheet in half and then cutting out the pattern (so you get 2 pieces, one each for the front and back). Then I cut the hat and muzzle from the tan corduroy. The mouth was cut from plain red felt and we cut 3 strips about 1/2" x 12" and then cut those in half for the pom pom. Just tie a piece of thread around the middle of your bundle of felt strips and pull tight. We used hot glue to adhere the layers. Basically, Lay the back piece down with the inside facing you, trace around the outside of the money starting about 1/2" above one ear and going down around the face to the other side right at the edge (leave the top with no glue). Then lay the top piece over it with the corduroy side facing you. Then glue on the hat and muzzle, then the mouth. A dot of glue on top of the hat for the pom pom and finally add some button eyes. To make the closure, you use a hook and look tape dot that already has the adhesive on it.

What a quick and simple project that is simply adorable! Hope to see you again soon for another great project!

Patriotic Heart Wreath

So today I wanted to share the fun wreath I made for my front door! I bought a wire wreath frame that was heart shaped, 3 colors of fabric, and plain wooden stars.

I started by cutting the fabric into strips of 20" x 4" and then tied 2 red , 2 white until I got to where I wanted the blue to start. The knot you would use is called a "Larks head" see the photo below for a How To:

Finally I painted the wooded stars with silver paint and then added glitter and Mod Podge to make them sparkle! I think it looks amazing on my blue front door!

Darth Vader Mickey Ears

Hello again! As I've mentioned in the past, I'm a bit of a Disney Fanatic, so of course I had to try my had at making some Mickey Ears. I used a pair I bought in Disney World to size up my ears.And I found these awesome fabrics at Walmart of all places!

I started by covering the headband in the "Star Wars" words fabric. Then I carefully placed my pattern piece that I created so that I would get 2 Darth Vader Sugar Skulls, one in the middle of each ear. To keep things easy, I used the Star Wars Words fabric to do the back side of each ear (yes, it was nerve wracking to get those front sides lined up and cut correctly. Then you simply sew them together. And no, I don't sew well so these are NOT perfect, so that's why I know anyone can do this! Each ear is stuffed with 1/4" foam sheet and batting and then I used my hot glue gun to attach them to the headband. Then I glued a rhinestone trim around the seam of each ear. 

Finally I created the bow with more of the word fabric and used another piece of the sugar skull fabric to create the center strip. The bow is all hot glue and a zip tie, no sewing! My oldest daughter absolutely LOVES Darth Vader so she instantly claimed these as her own!
