Girl Scout Bunny Craft with Plaid Paints

Hello Everyone! Today I want to share a fun and simple craft that I made with my Girl Scout troop! For this project you will need a 2x4 cut into 8" tall pieces, wood heart shapes, wire, wired burlap ribbon and a pretty floral ribbon, a hot glue gun Plaid Crafts Folk Art Paints in white, pink, gray and brown and paint brushes!

To begin you paint your entire block with the white paint. You can use brown to add a little distressing around the edges. While that's drying, paint the heart (for the nose) and centers of the ears pink. Each ear is cut from a piece of wired burlap ribbon. Then you'll take about 18" of wire and twist each end around the pencil, leaving about 1" in the center flat (to glue under the heart), repeat 2 more times. Then tie a bow from your floral ribbon. Now you're ready to assemble! Just add a blob of hot glue and stick the wires down into it, and the heart nose right on top before the glue dries. Then glue each ear to the back of the block. Finally add the bow. To finish it off, you can dip the end of your brush, a pencil eraser or your finger into the paint to make eyes. My daughter also wanted a mouth for her bunny so she painted one.

Here's my daughter with her finished bunny! All of the girls loved being able to create such a fun project that they will be able to display for years to come!

Here's a look at the bunnies I created as well! I used 8", 6" and 4" blocks to make this family of bunnies. Such a fun and simple project!

Unicorm Wristlet with Kunin Felt at Creativation

Hey Everyone! I wanted to take the next few posts to share some of the fun projects I made while attending this year's Creativation Show. Creativation is a trade show for the craft and hoddy industry and is a LOT of fun to attend.

I'm pretty sure this Corduroy Felt from Kunin is one of my favorite discoveries at the Creativation show this year! Which is funny because I mostly craft with paper and vinyl. But there is something about the texture of this felt that I just LOVE! So I can't wait to get my hands one more of it soon so I can start creating more fun projects... Girl Scout Camp Projects anyone? 

So this sweet unicorn pouch is just a sheet of the Corduroy White Felt folded in half and hot glued along the sides, making sure you glue in the rainbow pom pom trim handle along the one side. Then we glued the white pom pom trim along each side. Next you will cut a horn, ears and eyelid/lashes out of pieces of felt and hot glue like I did above. Finally, use a piece of tulle that you accordion fold and tie off in the middle with some tread and hot glue at the base of the horn for hair. Finally just add some hook and loop tape along the top for a closure and you are ready to take your purse out shopping!

Girl Scout Toilet Paper Swap

So the most hated kaper (chore) at Girl Scout camp is cleaning the latrines. Really, the girls don't have it so bad because they really just have to wipe down the seat with gloves on and a Clorox wipe and look for any garbage around the area. So the swap we created for this was the Toilet Paper Roll Swap!

Can you tell what we used to make this? It's a Wooden Spool and White Felt! I cut the felt a little smaller than the width of the spool and it's about 3-4" long. Enough to wrap around the spool once and leave a bit hanging off like TP. I used hot glue for this one to make it a fast project. To finish it off I just added a pin through the felt on top of the roll and it was done!

Girl Scout Bandana Swap

Today I'm sharing another fun swap from Girl Scout Camp. To see the definition of SWAPS, check out my previous post! We used this swap to commemorate our "Clean Up" job kaper (chore) at camp.

I simply cut up bandanas into 3x3" squares, folded them in half to make a triangle and then threaded on a bead to the two ends together. The bead is just a plastic pony bead. Then I added a safety pin and they were done! So easy and quick.

Girl Scout Camp Swaps - Band Aid Nurse Swap

Today I want to share one of my favorite things - Girl Scout SWAPS! What is a swap exactly? It stands for Special Whatchamacallit Affectionately Pinned Somewhere. So basically, it's some thing small that you can pin to your uniform or SWAPS banner (we have something each year at camp for the girls to save their swaps on).

Today I'm going to share the Nurse Band Aid Swap. This one was super easy. I simply cut beige felt into strips about 3/4" wide by about 2 1/2" long. For camp I usually make about 125 swaps for the girls and adults so you want something very simple. Next, I rounded all the corners to look more band aid like. Next I cut white felt into 3/4" squares. Finally I cut heart shaped felt for the center. I actually used multiple colors here to coordinate with their unit. So the hearts were a rainbow of colors. I glued everything together with Aileen's Tacky Glue. Seriously the BEST for this type of project. It's thicker glue so the felt doesn't absorb it as much. To finish it off, I added a safety pin to attach it!

Girl Scout Troop Canvas

So today we are at the Girl Scout Cookie Kick Off Rally, attempting to break a World Record for the most people dunking a cookie in one place, with Girl Scout Cookies! So I thought it was entirely appropriate to share one of my Girl Scout craft projects!

Last Spring when I took my Girl Scout troop camping at one of our local camps, in a cabin we noticed that other troops had created artwork and left it behind. Since my troop was painting their own canvases, I decided that we should make a piece of art too. I used my Cricut and cut the words from Cricut Vinyl and stuck them directly to the white canvas. Next we coated the whole thing in a thin layer of Mod Podge to seal the letters so the paint wouldn't bleed under. Then we used varying shades of green paint to create our design. My troop loves all the sparkly things too, so we added a layer of glitter paint too. Then we peeled off the vinyl once it was mostly dry to reveal the words underneath.

After I took this photo all of the girls and I signed it and we are looking forward to returning in the future to see if our art is still there! Cross your fingers that we break that record today too!
